Local Server Installation And Configuration For WordPress

Local server installation and configuration for WordPress

  1. Download and install WAMP-SERVER from (Wamp – WampServer | SourceForge.net)
  2. once the installation process is finished (run the program, if it is not already running.)
  3. At the bottom of your computer screen or at the left corner of the windows-toolbar: right-click on the pink-color WAMP-icon (you will see a list of menus: select “run all services”)  after a few seconds the icon will turn to green. Local server is now ready to use.
  4. Repeat step 3 and click on “www directory” it will open your project directory( create new folder in this directory and give it a project name like “settour”.
  5. Download WordPress from https://wordpress.org/download/
  6. Unzip WP files, select all the files, copy these files and paste it in your project folder. (In the folder that you have created in step 4)
  7. Repeat step 3 and click on “Localhost” it will open your browser with WAMP-SERVER (  under the category “Your Aliases” click on “phpmyadmin”.
  8. On the phpmyadmin screen click on the menu “databases” and type your project database name in the “create database” input field. (e.g: mydb, voyage, testdb…)
  9. Now you will see your database listed at the left-side of the screen among other databases. (if you click on your DB name it will show the tables in the database but at this age there are no tables created yet. After you have installed WP you should see the tables listed alphabetically.)
  10. Keep your DB name in memory and repeat step 7, under the category “Your Projects” click on “YourWpProjectName”. (it will open your WP installation link [ http://localhost/yourProjectFolderName/wp-admin/setup-config.php] )
  11. Select your language and hit on continue.
    • Database name = “Your DB Name”
    •  Database username = “root” (this is standard at the moment just use it, you will be ok.)
    • Database password = “” (leave empty otherwise try to use root.)
    • Database host = “localhost”
    • Table prefix (if you want to run more than one WordPress in a single database then it is good to add some prefix for your tables: e.g eth_, exd_, set_, tour_, wp_ …..)
  12.  Enter your Admin information and site title. (You can edit this information later on as well.)
  13.  Login to your WP Admin section ( http://localhost/YourProjectName/wp-admin/index.php)
  14.  Select “themes” from Dashboard -> appearance -> themes.
  15.  Click on “Add New” when it opens Click on “Upload theme” ( Browse and upload theme voyage.zip, it should be in a zip file otherwise you can do this manually by copying the “voyage” theme folder and paste it in your WP project projectFolderName/wp-content/themes/voyage )
  16. You can now activate and set your theme as default ( during the installation process follow the standard installation steps and late the theme install sample data/content because that is the main reason why we are doing this. )
  17. When it is done, please test your theme and look how they have categorized the content(Back-end) and how the content is accessible on the site(Front-end).(http://localhost/yourProjectFolderName/)

I hope, the steps are on the right order. If so, good luck. Otherwise feel free to contact me.
